Discipline: Obedience, trained in Confirmation but coloration typically disqualifies him, Dock jumping and water work
Personality: Vogel is one of our quieter, more low key dogs here at the stables. Regal and very dignified, he prefers to stay clean and remain stationary, over activities that involve a lot of running around. He does not chase our horses, or really do too much active play, and instead can usually be found perched on top of some low-laying hay bales, legs stretched out. He's a very relaxed and laid-back dog, watchful and observant but not terribly reactive to most stimuli. So even when something does catch his attention (usually small, huntable animals such as squirrels), he very lazily investigates- walking or trotting over, rarely running, giving the item in question a good sniff and a lick before returning to his favorite lounge spot. It can be a little difficult to motivate him during training, as one might guess, but he does have a few favorite toys and treats that can coax him into action. Once his attention is gained, he's a very calm, attentive, and focused dog. He's been easy to train so far, but doesn't perform as well. His independent aloofness means that he only listens when he wants to, and has a tendency to get bored during shows and saunters off. However, he has a knack and a ridiculous love for swimming and water-based activities, so we've recently been trying him at dock jumping. He seems to really enjoy it.

Background: Vogel was bought from another breeder out of state when he was approximately six months old. A bit of a dominant personality meant that he fit in almost immediately, taking charge of the other dogs rather than submitting to them. He and our other dane Alpine bonded almost immediately, so we will likely get some nice pups out of them in the future. He spends most of his time with our mixed breed Ellie, whom expends all of her energy trying to dominate the much larger Vogel. He simply lays there and torments her, it's often hilarious to watch.

It is clear that Vogel was not brought up around horses as he is very weary of ours. He avoids going into the pastures when he can and steers clear of the barn when the horses are in there. But he does still accompany riders on trails, as he enjoys the wilderness, exercise and exploration. He simply keeps either way in the back or way out in front of the group, avoiding being within a few feet of any of the horses.

Breeding Status: Open (with other Great Danes only, please)

So he's a Great Dane named Vogel? this is pretty ironic, there is a character in Saints Row 2 named Dane Vogel.
